Genii Update!

Wendy showed Genii at the Maresfield Dressage Schooling Show, May 17th
for the first time and had a successful outing. Genii is doing well and looks great!

Rescue Colt Named!

The little boy's name is "Harley" - he's got tons of chrome!

Colt (born 5/14/08) out of QH mare(unpapered) - This little boy was part of our rescue
mission, he is correct in conformation and should mature 15-15.2H. Absolutely
adorable and personable. Looking for a forever home, priced reasonably just to help
pay off some of the expenses. Available after weaning (mid-September).

Sophie the Rescue Filly has a Colt! 5/14/08

It has been about 5 weeks since we picked up Sophie from the killer pen at the auction house. Early Wednesday morning she gave birth to a beautiful chestnut colt with tons of chrome. Both mare and foal are doing well, and we will find them appropriate homes once they are ready. We are still working on a name for the little boy, and are glad that we could give Sophie the chance to bring him into this world.

Cassie, A Wonderful Golden Retriever

In March of 2007 Cassie was diagnosed with epitheliotic lymphoma.  This is a cancer of the mucous membranes in the mouth.
We were told that with good care and good luck we would have maybe three months with her.

Evidently Cassie wasn’t paying attention.

Three months came and went and she was still demanding that someone throw the damn ball.

Six months came and went and she was thoroughly enjoying her visits to the oncologist who
would sit on the floor with her and rub her belly. (What’s not to like?)

Nine months later she had slowed down a step or two but heck,
she was 84.  How are you going to be doing at that point?

A few weeks ago she started to have some trouble standing up on our slippery wood floor.  Perhaps it was
in sympathy for me who was hobbling around in a walking boot and cane.

About a week ago, on a routine trip to the oncologist, (“more treats, lets go!”)  we learned that she had either a
secondary cancer or a form of encephalitis and a very low platelet count.  Her buddy Dr. Clifford gave her
a bunch of different meds to try (all yummy!) but the prognosis was not good.

The past week was trying.  (For her parents).  Although she could no longer walk and eating was a chore
life still seemed a bowl or cherries. (Or perhaps a bowl of tennis balls from her perspective).  If anything, things
weren’t so bad.  Meals were either freshly grilled hamburger or perhaps a nice chicken breast, or some of the
organic smoked turkey from Whole Foods.  But despite her always happy demeanor physically things had seriously deteriorated.

We spent all day Saturday (4/26) hanging out together and lying in the dirt in the yard.  (Well, she took the better,
dirtier spot.  We were relegated to the pillows.)  One of her vets from Red Bank Hospital came to
the house and we helped her take a final nap in the sun.

We were truly blessed to have basked in her always sunny outlook on life.
After thirteen years she will always be our puppy and will always be in our hearts.

She sends her love.
Skip and Laurie

Sophie and Emmie Massaged 4/23/08

Maryann Titone of Equiheal.com came out for the second time to massage both the girls. She
reports that Sophie is feeling much more loose and relaxed and also noted that she is moving
more comfortable (although still waddling as she hasn't given birth yet!). Emmie needed
more deep muscle work, especially in her neck.

Respekt Wins His First Two Grand Prix's

Emma's Spring Fling (4/19-20/08) was Respekt's debut at Grand Prix, and he won with GAIC
and CBLM Qualifying scores on both Saturday and Sunday. Respekt (Inspekteur X Elcaro)  was imported
from Holland as an unbroken 3 year old for resale. Just two weeks after he arrived at Flying Change Farm,
Heather decided to keep him for herself - the gentle giant (17.1H)  has been a very good show horse ever since!

Emmie and Sophie Update, 4/14/08

Both girls got massaged today by Maryann Titone who has donated her services to help our little
rescue fillies feel better. Both girls were very well behaved and definitely need some massage.
Maryann will be coming back again soon. Please see her website at Equiheal.com

Rescue Fillies - Vet Check, Dr Mike Fugaro, 4/9/08

Emerald (Emmie)
Friendly and well behaved, she received Flu/Rhino, Tetanus, EEE/WEE/VEE and Rabies. She also
had her Coggins drawn. Her hernia definitely needs surgery and we will have it scheduled soon. Emmie was also wormed.

Saphire (Sophie)
Confirmed in foal and due within the month, Sophie was perfectly well behaved for her ultrasound and shots.
She received Flu/Rhino, Tetanus, EEE/WEE/VEE and Rabies. She also had her Coggins drawn. She has already
started to "bag up" , so we are checking her daily. Sophie will not be wormed until after foaling.

Rescued - Two Quarter Horse Babies, 4/05/08

Emerald, Saphire, and 3 colts had been purchased at auction and scheduled to ship from South Jersey to a
Canadian slaughter house on Sunday.  Hearing that the colts had found homes, Bob, Colleen and Heather
rushed to rescue the two fillies on Saturday. Carol and Gerry Miller, friends of FCF, generously donated
the use of their pasture and shelter, and the two fillies are doing well.  Once all of their vet work is up to date, we
will teach them basic handling and then look to find suitable homes for them.
For more information contact Heather at fcfnj@aol.com

Zauberelle Has a Colt, 3/30/08

Lesley from Trevelyan Farm just reported that Zauberelle ("Magic") had a lovely colt by Wicked Courtjester.
This has been a very successful cross in the past, and this new colt is definitely a stallion prospect!
